As noted by the press service of the Ministry of Health, West Nile fever is a transmissible viral disease transmitted mainly by mosquitoes. The infection is not transmitted from person to person. It has a clearly defined seasonality, from June to October, due to favorable conditions for the reproduction and spread of mosquitoes.
About 80% of infected people do not develop any symptoms. The department noted that the clinical symptoms of this disease are headache, muscle pain, rash, joint pain, dizziness, and in severe cases, meningitis, encephalitis, as well as signs of damage to the central or peripheral nervous system.
