ArmInfo. Lack of job opportunities and security issues have led to alarming rates of emigration from Armenia's border villages. Garnik Danielyan, opposition MP from the "Armenia" parliamentary faction, wrote this on his Facebook page.
During a visit to the border villages of Khoznavar, Vagatur, Khnatsakh and Karashen in the Syunik region, attention was drawn to the fact that after the surrender of Berdzor (Lachin), these settlements were blockaded from three sides and are now under constant enemy fire, being subjected to regular shelling. Danielyan also pointed out several serious issues faced by local residents. Particularly, the MP explained that after the 2020 war, a significant part of the pastures in Khoznavar, Vaghatur and Khnatsakh came under the control of Azerbaijan. The MP also pointed out the deplorable state of inter-community roads in those villages and in Goris, despite recent road construction work. According to him, unfavorable conditions have also been created for local residents engaged in small-scale trade and surviving in extreme conditions. According to the MP, the increase in the tax burden puts them at risk of closure.
Danielyan emphasized that in discussions with local residents, a lack of prospects was noted, especially among young people who no longer envision a future in these settlements."Meanwhile, the villages and their residents, who found themselves in the crosshairs of the enemy, should have felt the daily attention and care of the state and authorities," Danielyan concluded.
