ArmInfo. The bulk of the amount stolen from the fireproof safe of the Investigative Committee of Armenia - $578.8 thousand - has been found. The defendants in the case have already confessed.
As Arman Khachatryan, head of the investigative group of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, said in a report by the Public Television of Armenia, the theft was organized by the acting head of one of the Main Departments for the Investigation of Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee Gor Tadevosyan, and carried out by Edgar Grigoryan, who is involved in the case of the storming of the government building on November 9, 2020.
According to the indictment, Grigoryan visited the Investigative Committee building twice - on May 16 and 20. On the day of the robbery, he was wearing a silicone mask, a medical mask and glasses. <When he left the house, his appearance had already changed, even his neighbors did not recognize him. While walking in front of the cameras, Grigoryan covered his face with his hand," the investigator reported.
He entered the building at 16:30 and spent the whole night there. To do this, he used a copy of the pass of one of the investigators of the Investigative Committee, given to him by Tadevosyan. The latter also gave him the keys to the room and the safe with the money. From about 16:40 he was in the corridor of the 6th floor of the Investigative Committee building, where he stayed until the end of the working day. At about 05:20 he entered the room, opened the safe and took the money.
Grigoryan left the building 16 hours later - at about 08:30, visited different regions of the country, and then returned home. Then he divided the stolen money into several parts. Grigoryan was found three days later. Law enforcement agencies managed to find the bulk of the stolen money - $578.8 thousand.
Both Tadevosyan and Grigoryan have already confessed. They have been arrested.
The investigation is ongoing, measures are being taken to collect the remaining $11,200 and find other members of the criminal group.
