ArmInfo. Residents of Artsakh have started to apply for Armenian citizenship more frequently. Deputy Interior Minister of Armenia Armen Ghazaryan made this statement during a press conference on May 23.
Ghazaryan believes that two main factors have influenced this activity. Firstly, the housing program mandates Armenian citizenship as a requirement. "Additionally, there has been a rise in awareness. Many myths around the citizenship have been widely circulating without legal grounds," the Deputy Interior Minister of Armenia noted.
Ghazaryan clarified that the Ministry has been actively running information campaigns to explain this complex topic. According to him, recently the people of Artsakh have started to realize the need to establish a strong legal connection with Armenia. "And such a long-term legal connection can only be achieved through obtaining citizenship," he added. In this vein, he reported that by May 20, 2025, 9,451 forcibly displaced people from Artsakh had applied for Armenian citizenship, with 8,315 already granted citizenship. When asked how many people from Artsakh had left Armenia since their forced displacement, Kazaryan shrugged his shoulders. He noted that for such information, one should contact the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia.
