ArmInfo. The Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) has condemned the desecration and demolition of the monument to Marshal Baghramyan in Stepanakert by Azerbaijanis. The Union noted that they expect due assessment from Russia in connection with such actions by the Azerbaijani side.
Considering that the Russian Investigative Committee has opened criminal cases investigating 167 cases of desecration, destruction or damage to military burial sites, monuments and memorials to Soviet soldiers located on the territory of 15 European countries, the UAR believes that Azerbaijan should be added to this shameful list.
The Union of Armenians of Russia considers these acts of vandalism, particularly the demolition of the monument to Ivan Khristoforovich Baghramyan, committed in the homeland of the legendary commander of the Victory, as part of an operation planned by the authorities of Azerbaijan and their patrons to devalue the role of the Soviet people and to distort historical facts. The ultimate goal of this is to distort historical truth, undermine moral foundations and destroy the continuity between generations. It is reported that the Union of Armenians of Russia is appealing to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, believing that a criminal case should be opened regarding the crime committed in Stepanakert in connection with <the desecration of the symbols of military glory of Russia, insult to the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, committed publicly>.
