ArmInfo.President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Anita Demetriou, and awarded her the Order of Friendship for her significant contribution in strengthening and developing the friendly relations between the countries.
As noted by the press service of the President of Armenia, the head of state emphasized that Cyprus is a valuable and reliable partner for the country and the relations between the peoples of the two countries are based on historical friendship, solidarity and mutual respect. Vahagn Khachaturyan lauded the level of cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Cyprus, especially the active contacts and mutual visits between the parliamentary friendship groups and foreign relations committees.
Touching upon the prospects for expanding bilateral relations, the President noted that more active cooperation in such areas as tourism and information technology could become a new impetus for the development of economic ties between Armenia and Cyprus. In this regard, the parties positively assessed the availability of direct flights between the two countries. The interlocutors also noted the importance of reciprocally opening resident embassies as a step towards strengthening the institutional foundations of cooperation, and underscored the effective cooperation between the two countries on international platforms.
They stressed the development of democratic institutions, commitment to democratic values, as well as the need for deepening cooperation in education, science and culture. In this regard, the parties positively assessed the smooth course of political dialogue on various levels, which contributes to expansion of bilateral ties.
