ArmInfo. By endorsing the candidacy of Bright Armenia party leader Edmon Marukyan for the post of prime minister as part of the initiative to vote no confidence in current head of government Nikol Pashinyan, the opposition would give the people of Armenia a chance to have the most fair elections in the history of the Republic of Armenia in 2026. MP Hovik Aghazaryan made this assessment today during a conversation with journalists.
"If the opposition parliamentary factions supported Edmon Marukyan's candidacy, we could have a prime minister for a year, and based on the results of the 2026 parliamentary elections, we would then elect a new prime minister. That is, there would be a real opportunity to achieve the desired goal of depriving Pashinyan of power," he said. According to Aghazaryan, he is not abandoning his initiative and the question remains open. Perhaps before 2026, at some "fateful stage for the country" colleagues from the opposition will still decide to join the initiative, he added.
"We will endorse Edmon Marukyan's candidacy until June 2026," he said. Aghazaryan says that he would never have supported Marukyan's candidacy if he had been nominated by the forces formed aligned with Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan. In this regard, the MP assured that he and Hakob Aslanyan are not naive enough to believe that the opposition would have immediately joined the initiative after Marukyan's candidacy was nominated,. "We have a plan B as well," he added.
