ArmInfo. The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, considers the Azerbaijani side's actions in 2025, the "trial" of Armenian prisoners in Baku, to be unacceptable. As Annita Demetriou noted on May 19 at a joint press conference with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, the stance of Cyprus on this extremely sensitive issue coincides with the stance of Armenia.
"That is, we cannot agree to anything that contradicts international law, human rights. And this is our principled stance on every issue," she said, expressing hope that what is happening will find its solution. "It is absolutely unacceptable that in 2025 we are discussing or seeing such manifestations and images," she emphasized. Touching upon the peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku, she expressed hope that the points specified in the peace treaty will be implemented. The peace treaty will also help Armenia's accession to the European Union. "When there is peace, every country prospers and develops," the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus added.
"Cyprus, as you know, has been divided into two parts for 50 years. Cyprus is another example that peace, stability and security must be established," Annita Demetriou concluded.
