ArmInfo. The leader of the "Bright Armenia" party and former Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan has accepted the offer from the board of the United National Constitutional Party (UNCP) to become a candidate for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia as part of the impeachment initiative against Nikol Pashinyan. Marukyan announced this decision on his Facebook page.
According to him, the UNCP board has instructed its representatives, members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan, to initiate the impeachment procedure of the Prime Minister in the country's parliament. This, as Marukyan noted, will be the first case in post- Soviet Armenia. According to the current legislation, the process of a vote of no confidence in the current head of government can be carried out only if there is a candidate for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. The proposal of the Unified National Congress was also discussed in the "Bright Armenia" party, and as a result consent was given to nominate Marukyan as a candidate for Prime Minister.
The politician said he intends to hold talks with representatives of two opposition factions in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia - "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" to begin the real impeachment process. All opposition parliamentarians will need to sign a letter addressed to the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, containing a draft resolution on expressing a vote of no confidence in the current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. A total of 36 signatures from MPs are required. Considering there are 28 oppositionists in the "Armenia" faction, 6 in the "I Have Honor" faction, and including the names of Aghazaryan and Aslanyan, we will have the required number of signatures.
