ArmInfo. The program of events of the Armenian government for 2021-2026 did not provide for changes to the Constitution of Armenia, much less the adoption of a new one. This was stated by public figure, former Armenian Ambassador to Poland Edgar Ghazaryan in an interview with journalists on May 15 after a meeting with independent MP Gegham Nazaryan as part of a citizens' reception in the RA Parliament. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the issue related to the initiation of the process of expressing impeachment against the current Prime Minister of Armenia. In addition, according to the public figure, the government program does not contain a single mention of the intention to abandon the Declaration of Independence of Armenia. "These provisions were not even included in the election program of the ruling Civil Contract party," Kazaryan added.
Touching on the initiative to impeach Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in this vein, the diplomat expressed his conviction that this process could be an effective tool for depriving the Armenian prime minister of power. He noted that the skirmish that occurred between deputies at a parliamentary session, as well as the threats voiced by the prime minister himself against his opponents, confirm the need to implement such measures.
"The author of the tense situation that has arisen in the Armenian parliament is Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. His presence at the sessions of the National Assembly and the question-and-answer format should ensure the government's accountability to parliament, but we are seeing the opposite. The Prime Minister's behavior during the sessions is unacceptable and is a violation of the Constitution of Armenia," Kazaryan summed up.
The initiators of the civil movement "We are vigilant" Edgar Kazaryan and Narek Malyan sent a letter with a request to start the impeachment process against Pashinyan to the members of parliament. To start this process, they need the signatures of 36 deputies, and the opposition lacks two votes, which they want to get in the ruling faction, which looks very doubtful. And for the initiative to be successful, it is necessary to secure the votes of 54 legislators out of 107.
