ArmInfo. Armenia reaffirms its strong support for the New Democratic Pact for Europe, as stated by the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Ararat Mirzoyan, during the 134th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Mirzoyan stated in his speech that the world is facing critical challenges today. According to him, the erosion of multilateralism and weakening of the human rights system, the alarming trend of democratic backsliding, the growing public disillusionment with democratic institutions and hybrid threats are some of those challenges. Mirzoyan added that in this context, the restoration of trust in democratic governance, the reinforcement of its fundamental principles and its meaningful adaptation are essential for the protection and advancement our shared values.
"I would like to highlight the valuable work carried out by the Secretary General and his team towards drafting and launching the New Democratic Pact for Europe. Armenia reaffirms its strong support for this initiative and stands ready to contribute actively to its objectives to make democracy more resilient, inclusive and future-ready. In this very context, I am glad to note that my country has been advancing in strengthening pillars of democracy and improving positions in various indices, most recently in media freedom with leading scores in the region," the Armenian Foreign Minister said.
In the context of the processes in the region, Mirzoyan noted that in the current geopolitical tensions and uncertainties, Armenia remains firmly committed to promoting sustainable peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus. "As you are aware, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced that the draft Peace Treaty has been agreed upon and finalized. It is noteworthy that one of the provisions of today's Ministerial decisions once again acknowledges this milestone and calls for the rapid signature and ratification of the Agreement," Mirzoyan said. In conclusion, he reiterated Armenia's strong support and readiness for further cooperation in achieving common goals.
