ArmInfo. In 2026, Armenia will host the 15th Cultural Routes Consultative Conference.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (MECS) of Armenia, the proposal to hold the conference was unanimously approved by the Governing Board of the Partial Enlarged Agreement of the Council of Europe at its annual meeting in Luxembourg. During the meeting, Astghik Marabyan, Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Folk Crafts of the MECS, who presented the proposal, was elected as a member of the Board of Directors.
As part of the annual meeting of the Governing Board, eight new applications for participation in the Cultural Routes program were also considered, and the current status of eight existing routes and two with emergency status was updated.
As recalled by the Ministry, the consultative conference is a key event of the Council of Europe's Cultural Routes program, annually bringing together about 300 participants from the member states of the agreement to discuss topical issues.
The project aims to create a platform for cultural dialogue that promotes the preservation and development of natural and cultural heritage as a key factor in sustainable cultural and social progress. At the same time, it demonstrates how the cultural heritage of different European countries contributes to the preservation and viability of the common cultural heritage.
Armenia has been a full member of the enhanced Cultural Routes agreement since 2015. The country also participates in such cultural routes as Wine Routes, Impressionism, Prehistoric Petroglyphs Trails, European Cemeteries, European Fairytale Route and European Route of Jewish Heritage. In addition, in 2023, the cartographic document of the cultural routes of Armenia was approved.
