ArmInfo. As a result of the activities of the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia, illegally acquired property and financial resources totaling approximately $600 million have been returned to state ownership. This was stated on May 12 at a session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, where discussions on the report of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan on the activities of the department in 2024 are continuing, by the Secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Artur Hovhannisyan.
According to him, the investigation into the billion drams case is ongoing. "It is very important that these figures were formed exclusively within the framework of legal and institutional actions. We did not follow the path of vendetta, creating mechanisms that do not recognize names and surnames, years, positions and acquaintances," the government representative said, adding that the ruling party did not follow its own whim to confiscate illegally acquired property, an issue that is often raised by citizens of the country.
"We will not lead the country down the path of lawlessness, since this will lead to the self-destruction of the state. In other words, we will not become Robert Kocharyan (the second president of the Republic of Armenia - ed.) or Serzh Sargsyan (the third president of the Republic of Armenia - ed.) or, figuratively speaking, Serzh Kocharyan, since it is very important for us that there are no innocent people convicted in the country or that several scoundrels are free, especially since responsibility will come sooner or later," said Artur Hovhannisyan, adding that everyone has witnessed how many people in the past ended up behind bars due to political whims.
He noted that luxurious mansions, especially in Yerevan, built using corruption schemes by former government officials, evoke emotional feelings among ordinary citizens of the country.
