ArmInfo. Members of the European Association of Judges (EAJ) visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex to the Victims of the Armenian Genocide.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, more than 70 delegates from about 40 countries were welcomed by the Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Edita Gzoyan, who told the guests about the history of the creation of the Memorial.
The Director of AGMI also touched upon the three khachkars installed on the territory of Tsitsernakaberd in memory of the Armenians who became victims of the massacres organized by the government of Azerbaijan in the cities of Sumgait, Kirovabad (Gandzak) and Baku at the end of the last century, emphasizing the connection of what happened with the Armenian Genocide.
Judges from different countries laid flowers at the eternal flame and honored the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide with a minute of silence. Edita Gzoyan also introduced the guests to the history of the memorial stones installed on the back of the Memorial Wall.
These special niches of the collection contain small jars filled with soil taken from the graves of a number of foreign public figures, politicians, intellectuals and missionaries who raised their voices in protest against the massacres and genocide of Armenians committed by the Turkish government in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The guests also visited the Armenian Genocide Museum, where they were introduced to the permanent and temporary exhibitions. At the end of the visit, members of the European Union of Judges planted a silver fir in the Memorial Park in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
