ArmInfo. The Pan-Armenian Union "Gardman-Shirvan- Nakhichevan" strongly condemns the actions of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', which do not correspond to his calling, as noted in the statement issued by the Union.
It recalls that the Patriarch recently visited Baku and met with the President of Azerbaijan and his wife. The authors note that one of the foundations of Azerbaijani nationalism, both today and in the past, continues to be religious discrimination, which was and is expressed in the overt or covert oppression of Christian minorities and the periodic destruction of Christian heritage. During his visit to Baku, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' had to raise his voice in protest against the state policy of open intolerance towards Christian values. The document highlights that the President of Azerbaijan and his wife are the living embodiment of the systematic propaganda of ethnic hatred against Armenians and the state program to destroy Armenians, support for which is tantamount to complicity in a crime, and "encouraging" the crime further aggravates the sin of disrespect for Christian values and reprehensible indifference to the peoples of the same faith.
"The family of the President of Azerbaijan is not only the direct heir of the regimes that committed genocide in historical Shirvan and Nakhichevan, subjecting the local indigenous Armenian population to periodic ethnic cleansing and forced displacement, but also continuously destroying the Armenian national-spiritual cultural heritage, which is nothing more than a deliberate and targeted erasure of historical memory and arbitrary distortion of the realities of the past. We call on Patriarch Kirill to be vigilant in relation to the undeniable fact of the destruction of the Armenian Christian heritage by Azerbaijan. Instead of encouraging these actions, practical steps should be taken to prevent the crimes being committed. Punishment and accountability for them must be demanded," the Union emphasizes.
