ArmInfo. Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan called the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan a person with "the status of a Russian spy". "I don't have the facts, this is just my opinion, if I had the facts, I would have taken appropriate action," he said at a briefing in parliament on May 5.
According to Simonyan, he is a politician and has the right to make a political statement. "He is a politician who solely aims to defend Russian interests and provide services in that regard," he pointed out. In response to a question of whether a politician has the mandate to make any statement he wants, Simonyan noted: "This is my political assessment". According to the speaker, when someone's statements completely align closely with those of the Russian side, and the faction members, then it is reasonable to draw a conclusion. Another "ironclad argument" for Simonyan is that the new mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, supported by Kocharyan, spoke in favor of Armenia joining the Union State of Russia-Belarus. "These things give me the right to say such things," he added.
In response to this, journalists pointed out that the statements of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also often align with those of the President of Azerbaijan, leading many to accuse Pashinyan of serving the interests of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem. According to Simonyan, such thoughts are voiced by those who would like to drag Armenia into a war and territorial disputes against neighboring countries, creating a legitimate pretext for an attack on Armenia. "However, it is obvious that Aliyev, according to his statements, is constantly dissatisfied with the processes and the fact that Yerevan does not fulfill his demands, which contradicts what you said," Simonyan said.
"Let us be clear - are the demands being met or not? Now, was the corridor granted or not? Just say yes or no - they did not grant it, did they?" the speaker of the RA National Assembly asked quite emotionally.
