ArmInfo. The "Armenia" faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has always advocated the use of any option to remove RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan from power. This is stated in the faction's statement.
The authors of the document consider Pashinyan's removal a vital necessity for the state and the people, and in this context, the faction was the first to declare the possibility of using a legal instrument in the form of impeachment.
"There are strong political and legal grounds for expressing no confidence in Nikol Pashinyan through impeachment. On the other hand, a vote of no confidence in the current Prime Minister can be discussed in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia only if at least 36 MPs provide the signatures required to start the process. At least 54 votes are needed for the process to be successful, which is a simple majority of the votes of the NA MPs. It is also obvious that without powerful popular pressure generated on the streets, it is impossible to secure the approximately two dozen additional votes required for the success of the impeachment. Moreover, even such pressure ultimately does not guarantee the required number of votes. The authors of the initiative do not represent political parties or movements and, in fact, do not bear any political responsibility for the possible failure of the impeachment and its consequences. To date, their ability to generate the rebellious masses necessary for success is also not visible. All this raises doubts in the faction about the true goals of the initiative," the statement reads.
However, as its authors emphasize, the Armenia faction unanimously confirms its readiness to provide the signatures of all 28 deputies to begin the impeachment process if the initiators of the process can provide the signatures of the missing 8 deputies, and also publicly declare their ability and responsibility to ensure the necessary popular support for the success of the impeachment.
"We also consider unacceptable the attempts to persecute the MPs of our faction and speak to us in the language of blackmail, which cannot remain unanswered. This style of work raises doubts: is the initiative aimed at eliminating Nikol Pashinyan or is there a hidden goal to strike a blow at the Armenia faction," the authors of the document ask. Let us recall that on April 28, opposition activists Edgar Ghazaryan and Narek Malyan called on the NA MPs to begin the impeachment process of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Letters demanding the impeachment procedure were sent to 107 parliamentarians along with a draft resolution, which lacks only the name of the candidate for the post of new prime minister. To submit the bill for discussion in parliament, 36 votes are needed, of which only 34 can be provided by two opposition factions.
