Armenia's Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan has responded to the incident involving the beating of activist Artur Chakhoyan by the head of the Nor-Nork administrative district of Yerevan, Tigran Ter-Margaryan, and other officials, stating that the perpetrators must be held accountable.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Ombudsman, in connection with the incident, an investigation has been launched at the Human Rights Defender Office, and a rapid response team has been dispatched to the Nor-Nork police department to meet with Artur Chakhoyan and other detainees. "The defender's representatives also held personal conversations with Artur Chakhoyan's lawyers. During the visit, it became clear that due to the deterioration of the activist's health, an ambulance was called and he was taken to a medical center," the Ombudsman's statement noted. The Human Rights Defender's Office emphasized that each case must receive a proper legal assessment. The Ombudsman also called for refraining from statements and actions that contribute to inciting hatred, intolerance or violence. "The Human Rights Defender once again emphasizes that any manifestation of violence is categorically unacceptable and deserves condemnation. The state has clear legal obligations in this regard," the Armenian Ombudsman's Office concluded.
