ArmInfo. As a result of complaints from Azerbaijani students and the active efforts of the Azerbaijani Embassy, the screening of the documentary film "My Sweet Land" by director Sarin Hayrabedyan, scheduled for April 24, was canceled at Berkeley University. This information was shared by journalist Gohar Veziryan on her Facebook page, who resides in the United States.
According to Veziryan, the notification about the cancellation of the screening was received via e-mail on the evening of April 23. She noted that this news came a complete surprise to the Department of Armenian Studies and students, as they had not encountered such a situation before. In this regard, the department had turned to the University's Human Rights Center for clarification. The response, as the journalist reported, stated that the screening of the film had been postponed until September, when they would have more staff available to ensure the safety of students and event participants. "The response noted that on April 22, the Human Rights Center received information about possible protests that could pose a threat to the safety of students. With only a day's notice, they did not have enough time to increase security personnel and thus decided to cancel the screening," Veziryan emphasized.
