ArmInfo. Burning the flag of another state is not a sign of a strong spirit, it is a sign of poverty, defeat and humiliation. Vice-chairman of the Armenian National Congress party Levon Zurabyan wrote about this on his Facebook account.
On April 23, on the eve of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun party organized a torchlight procession, during which the flags of Turkey and Azerbaijan were burned. This action caused a sharply negative reaction from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who condemned it.
According to Zurabyan, when the flags of Armenia's opponents are burned, national dignity suffers. "This means that we have become so helpless and desperate that we are not capable of anything else. During one of the visits to Turkey, when the delegation headed by the first President of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan was in Istanbul, Turkish television showed how Azerbaijanis, in protest against the visit of the head of the Armenian state, rented a ship and, sailing in the Sea of Marmara, burned Armenian flags. "Ter-Petrosyan said then: "Now I feel happy." We have become a serious state if our flag is burned. They burn the flags of strong states because they are not capable of doing anything else. This was, in fact, one of the most striking manifestations of our victories in the nineties," the politician noted.
On the other hand, according to Zurabyan, this is the first time that the Armenian authorities have reacted so sharply to this action by Dashnaktsutyun. Moreover, they are intimidating their own people, stating that the shelling in Khoznavar is a response to the burning of flags. "This is a sign of even greater humiliation, already at the official state level. Not to mention that this intimidation is built on lies. The shooting and escalation along the entire Armenian-Azerbaijani border began from the moment the "agreement" of the text of the draft Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement was announced and presented by the Armenian side as major "progress" towards establishing peace," the ANC deputy chairman noted.
