ArmInfo.The international " Garden of Memory" event took place in the Victory Park in Yerevan. The Armenian side has been participating in this large-scale tree planting event for the fifth year in a row. In his opening remarks before the tree planting, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin noted the significance of such events.
"This is a very important event, which symbolically kicks off a series of busy events dedicated to the glorious anniversary of the Great Victory, its 80th anniversary," the Russian diplomat said, adding that the event has brought together representatives of states that honor the achievements of the Soviet people. He also added that the action is of great importance, as it links the past with the future, and each planted tree is a gift of memory to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Armenia, Bolat Imanbayev, emphasized that for 5 years now they have all been participating in this important international and noble event dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Imanbayev also emphasized that events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War hold a significant place in Kazakhstan's state agenda - on May 7, Astana will host the Victory Parade.
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Armenia Makhmedgeldi Ayazov noted that this event is not only an opportunity to express gratitude to their ancestors, but also to preserve the memory of their exploits for centuries. "May 9 is a holy day. The courage and fortitude of our compatriots in those years are an example of service and loyalty to their Fatherland, people and all of humanity. The Turkmens, together with other peoples of the Soviet Union, made a great contribution to the common victory," the diplomat said.
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War were honored guests at the event. Students, volunteers and city residents planted trees in memory of those who died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. The event in Yerevan was made possible by the Foundation for the Development and Support of Russian-Armenian Humanitarian Initiatives "Heritage and Progress" with the assistance of the Yerevan City Hall.
The international "Garden of Memory" event has been held since 2020, in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who planted his memorial tree at the Rzhev Memorial in 2020.The main goal of this large-scale ecological and patriotic initiative is to annually plant 27 million trees in memory of each person who died during the Great Patriotic War.
