ArmInfo. As part of the Earth Day, Team Telecom Armenia has launched a sustainable development project, involving its customers in it as well. For every smartphone sold in the last week, the company will plant 10 trees, establishing a 1- hectare forest in the Bovadzor community of Lori region.
Since its establishment, Team Telecom Armenia has been taking active steps towards environmental protection, which is also enshrined in the company's sustainable development strategy. Considering that forests are the main source of carbon absorption in Armenia, and the company has committed to reducing atmospheric emissions by 40% by 2029, the expansion of forested areas is of significant importance here. Afforestation works are being carried out in cooperation with Armenia Tree Project (ATP), which has many years of experience in the field, which will also carry out further care and maintenance of the forest. Complete afforestation of the area will be carried out in the spring and fall of 2025.
"We have been joining Earth Day for 3 years now, demonstrating our commitment to environmental protection. We are very happy that this year's initiative is being implemented with the support of our customers. Reforestation is especially important in climate-vulnerable regions, which is why we chose Lori so that it can also withstand increasing natural disasters," says Arevik Mkrtchyan, Environmental and Social Affairs Expert at Team Telecom Armenia.
In recent years, Team Telecom Armenia has achieved significant results thanks to the implementation of an environmental management system. In particular, in 2024, the number of electric cars in the company's fleet reached 22.8%, which significantly contributes to reducing the carbon footprint. At the same time, the amount of renewable energy production in energy consumption as a result of the installation of solar photovoltaic systems is about 4.1%, thus increasing by about 20 times compared to 2022.
In addition, the company is actively engaged in waste management: more than 6,000 kg of paper and cardboard were recycled, and thanks to the launch of E-sim technology, 557 kg of plastic cards were avoided, and therefore plastic waste was also avoided. Moreover, as part of the steps taken to protect the environment, electrical equipment is recycled, the total number of which reached about 11,522 pieces last year.
"Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to support environmental protection. This year, it is celebrated under the theme "Our Power, Our Planet," the company said in a statement.
