ArmInfo. The Yerevan City Hall presented preferential packages for garbage collection payments. As David Hakobyan, Acting Head of the Yerevan City Hall Department for Accounting and Revenue Collection, noted during the meeting of the Council of Elders on April 22, the 100% discount will apply to certain groups of Yerevan residents.
In particular, family members of servicemen killed or recognized as killed, missing or missing, captured as a result of the Artsakh war or during the defense of the borders of the Republic of Armenia, on the line of contact, during combat duty, while performing a special assignment, official duties, as well as for servicemen who received functional limitations, 1st and 2nd disability groups as a result of the above will no longer have to pay for garbage collection. Single, unemployed pensioners and city residents who consume up to 10 kilowatts of electricity per month will also not have to pay for waste removal.
A 50% discount will be provided to residents of apartments with an area exceeding 65 sq.m., and 75% - to residents of private houses with an area exceeding 75 sq.m. , - said David Hakobyan, noting that the project received a positive conclusion from the Ministry of Justice.
The city hall plans to provide citizens with the opportunity to pay for garbage removal services on the city hall website by May 1, as well as in all administrative districts of Yerevan through POS terminals. Moreover, negotiations are underway with the Central Bank and the Union of Banks on the introduction of a garbage collection payment function in the mobile applications of commercial banks in Armenia.
The Council of Elders voted for the adoption of the project as follows: 43 for, 3 against and 14 abstained.
At the end of December last year, the city authorities announced that from now on, the calculation of the fee for garbage removal will be based not on the number of residents, as was previously the case, but on the area of the residential property occupied.
According to the current procedure, in Yerevan, each resident pays 200 drams per month for garbage removal. With the innovations, as the acting head of the Yerevan Municipality Department for Accounting and Revenue Collection David Hakobyan assured back then, on average, garbage removal will increase by 80 drams for apartment residents, and by 180 drams for private houses.
