ArmInfo. Starting from 2021, especially this year, Turkey more than ever insistently demands that the de facto authorities of Armenia remain unconditionally in the Turkish "propaganda circle" on the issue of the Armenian Genocide. This is written by Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan.
According to him, this is not only about a complete rejection of the international recognition of the genocide, but also about the refusal to politicize this issue in Armenia and the Armenian world, and at most mentioning it as a cultural event.
"In this sense, it is not at all surprising to hear that, for example, Yerevan called on the embassies and consulates of Armenia to ensure that Turkey's name is not mentioned at events in the diaspora. In the next 2-3 days, we will probably hear other examples of Turkish propaganda allegedly expressed on behalf of the Armenian people.
The memory of the Armenian Genocide is not just history. It is a clear political position, which is part of our security. Our security is enhanced not by oblivion and denial of the genocide (as the de facto authorities are now preaching), but quite the opposite," the Turkologist noted.
According to him, knowledge of old and new episodes of the Armenian Genocide and steadfastness in preserving them stem from Armenia's strategic interests. "In other words, if you forget that a crime was committed against you, you give an additional green light for something similar to happen again. Therefore, this week and in the future, until we restore the Armenian national state, it is important for all of us to be consistent on this issue, starting with our visit to Tsitsernakaberd on April 24," the Turkologist concluded.
At a meeting with the Armenian community of Switzerland in January of this year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan questioned the historical fact of the Armenian Genocide and voiced pro- Turkish narratives on this issue. Moreover, the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated that this issue is no longer a priority for the country's foreign policy.
