ArmInfo. Armenian authorities are resorting to new tricks to legitimize their illegal actions, as stated by the leader of the Mother Armenia bloc, Andranik Tevanyan, to journalists on April 14.
In particular, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has already submitted a draft law that would impose a fine of 15,000 drams on passengers without tickets on Yerevan public transport. Tevanyan recalled the bloc's opposition to the proposed fare increase to 300 drams, which was eventually reduced to 150 drams as a result of active resistance from opposition forces and citizens. Nevertheless, the bloc is in favor of reducing the fare to the original level - 100 drams. However, here too the authorities resorted to tricks, classifying public transport travel as a local payment to prevent a local referendum. "We have already collected 17 thousand signatures, but the authorities have resorted to deceiving the population once again by forbidding a referendum on local payments," the leader of the "Mother Armenia" bloc emphasized.
He recalled the statements made by the current government authorities that the people are not a material for applying fines, yet today those same authorities are imposing fines and increasing taxes. Andranik Tevanyan emphasized that the current government is illegitimate and must be replaced at both the city and national levels, since this is the only way to implement the opposition's plan to lower transportation fares.
