ArmInfo. The Vice Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Boris Chernyshov, believes that there are forces that are trying to disrupt and pull apart the long-standing historical ties between Armenia and Russia.
On April 10, during a conversation with journalists at the "Eurasia - Territory of Traditional Values!" forum, the deputy touched upon Armenian-Russian relations and emphasized that Russia is not losing influence in Armenia, since it has never sought to exert control over the country. "Russia is not losing influence in Armenia and has never sought to influence Armenia. This idea is baseless. We do not seek to control our friends, we want our friends to prosper and thrive, we want to support them. We support Armenia in its quest for freedom, independence and sovereignty. But there are forces that do not need a sovereign Armenia and do not want true independence. They are trying to disrupt and pull apart the historical ties connect Armenia and Russia," he noted. In this vein, he suggested looking at what is happening with the Russian language and the celebration of Victory Day, when attempts are being made to reshape history. "My great-grandfather fought alongside soldiers from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. They fought in the same trench and, regardless of nationality, fought for the Soviet Union and the future of their children, and this was true freedom. Therefore, let's not add fuel to the fire on one hand, and on the other hand let's not bring grist to the mill of our opponents. They can do whatever they want, and relations between peoples will develop and strengthen, as evidenced by the attitude of our Armenian partners," Chernyshov said.
