ArmInfo.The European Union has approved the application of the Republic of Armenia to join the European Commission (EC) for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Thus, Armenia has become the 40th member country of the EC for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease.
The main objective of the Commission is to counter the threat of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks and similar transboundary animal diseases that pose a serious economic threat to the country in a regional sense and lead to economic restrictions.
The role of the Commission is to coordinate the activities of member countries to control and prevent the disease. In the event of an outbreak, the Commission provides support to member countries in acquiring diagnostic and preventive materials, as well as in organizing and implementing disease control measures.
In addition to Armenia, the Commission from the South Caucasus region also includes Georgia and Turkey.
The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease is one of the commissions of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which was founded in 1954. The organization has carried out significant work in more than 100 countries in Eurasia, the Middle East and Africa that found themselves in a difficult epidemic situation. At the same time, the Ministry of Economy noted that the epidemic situation with animals in Armenia is currently stable
