ArmInfo. On April 8, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan received the Head of NATO Liaison Office in Georgia Alexander Vinnikov and the Officer on Political Affairs of the Office Arkadiush Legich.
At the meeting the interlocutors discussed a number of agenda items regarding the Armenia-NATO cooperation.
Reference was made, particularly, to the RA-NATO Partnership current programmes, the international and regional security and the steps being taken in that direction, the transformation of the RA Armed Forces and the opportunities for deepening cooperation in democratic reforms, as well as educational programs implemented in the Armed Forces.
The interlocutors also referred to the discussions ongoing discussions on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the issue of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkiye
Relations between Armenia and NATO were established in 1992 with the accession of the republic to the North Atlantic Cooperation Council, renamed the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council in 1997. Following Armenia's accession to the Partnership for Peace program in 1994, cooperation was deepened and expanded. In 2017, Armenia and the NATO North Atlantic Council approved the 5th Individual Partnership Action Plan between Yerevan and NATO for 2017-2019. Currently, Armenia and NATO are negotiating the adoption of a new cooperation document - the Individually Tailored Armenia-NATO Partnership Plan.
