ArmInfo. The maternal mortality rate in Armenia has decreased to 25.6 per 100,000, according to data provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Yerevan.
UNFPA highlighted that the highest rate was recorded in 2000 - 40.3/100,000, and the three-year average for 2023 is 25.6, with 4 maternal deaths in 2023. The Fund also noted that when analyzing indicators for populations of less than 5 million people, the assessment is based on comparing three-year average values. "In recent years, more than 60% of maternal deaths have been due to extragenital causes, including COVID-19 in 2020-2021," UNFPA reported.
