ArmInfo. Residents of Proshyan and Kasakh villages blocked the Yerevan-Ashtarak highway on the morning of April 5. They are demanding a solution to the emerging transportation problem.
Earlier it became known that buses operating on routes N 25 and N 59 , which offered a fare of 100 drams for travel, have been removed. The removal of these buses may lead to a transportation crisis in the aforementioned villages, as the Multitransport company has introduced new tariffs of 200 and 250 drams.
As one of the protestors told journalists, local residents do not have enough money to pay 250 drams for each trip. Children's trips to nearby schools will also become problematic. With the decommissioning of buses, the cost of travel will increase significantly, and local residents do not have enough money to solve the transportation issues for children in these villages. Residents said that they refuse to pay a higher fare.
Another participant in the protest mentioned that the authorities plan to meet with them. Specifically, the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Simonyan, has expressed his willingness to meet with a group of 20 village residents. The meeting is expected to take place on April 7 at 5:30 p.m. "If our demand is not met, we will set up tents in front of Nikol's house (RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan - ed.), let them finally solve this issue," he said. Note that special forces have arrived in the villages. The Chief of Police of Ashtarak met with the participants of the action, urging them to discuss the problem at the community administration building. He assured them that route N25 will continue to operate until a resolution is reached.
