ArmInfo. Iran and Russia support Armenia's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani, during a seminar on "Promoting the Shanghai Spirit: SCO in Action", noted that the accession of new members to this Organization, including friendly ones such as Armenia, will broaden the scope of cooperation and opportunities in security, trade and culture. Sobhani believes that the expansion of the organization attests to the appeal and significance of the SCO in the international arena. "The SCO provides a unique opportunity to transform diversity into a unifying force. Promoting the Shanghai Spirit means adhering to principles and areas such as regionalism, transport, technology, security, culture and people-to-people contacts. We live in a world where multilateral cooperation is no longer a choice, but a necessity," he noted.
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, in a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of this event, also supported the idea of Armenia joining the SCO and declared his willingness to assist Armenia in pursuing this goal. According to him, the desire for interaction is quite natural, as it aligns with the principles of the SCO and reflects the dynamics of a multipolar world.
