ArmInfo. Azerbaijan continues to impose its preconditions for concluding a peace treaty on Armenia. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "I have the honor", at a press conference on April 3.
He recalled the words of the Ambassador-at-Large of the President of Azerbaijan, who a week ago said that Baku does not intend to wait forever for changes in Armenia's positions. First of all, this concerns Yerevan's position on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and amendments to the country's Constitution. In this regard, the oppositionist drew attention to one circumstance: the Armenian authorities should not have problems with the Constitution, especially those of its provisions that concern Artsakh. "The government, which recognized Artsakh as part of the territory of Azerbaijan, fulfilling Baku's preconditions for years, obviously should not have problems with changes to the Basic Law of the country, which is well understood in Azerbaijan. Another thing is that the Azerbaijanis are trying to drag out time by imposing new preconditions on Armenia. At the same time, Baku is putting pressure on Yerevan on the issue of the corridor, which is presented in Armenia as an opportunity to unblock transport communications. With its constant preconditions, Azerbaijan is trying to legitimize the possibility of starting military action against Armenia. I am not even talking about the demands for the return of 300 thousand Azerbaijanis to our country, while forgetting about the 500 thousand Armenians who lived in various regions of Azerbaijan," Tigran Abrahamyan emphasized.
On the eve of a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmair, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the text of the peace treaty with Armenia had been fully agreed upon. "Azerbaijan is not putting forward any additional conditions. Our conditions are known to Armenia, they are not new. We have stated these conditions long ago. However, we have not yet received a serious response from Armenia," Aliyev said, pointing to these conditions - the abolition of the OSCE Minsk Group and changes to the Constitution of Armenia. "As they say, the ball is in Armenia's court. If Armenia really wants to sign a peace treaty, it must accept these two legal conditions of Azerbaijan," Aliyev said.
