ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia cannot put pressure on RA National Assembly deputy from the opposition "I Have the Honor" faction Martun Grigoryan on the issue related to the Gyumri mayoral elections. This was stated by NA deputy from the said faction Tigran Abrahamyan at a press conference on April 3.
According to the preliminary data of the RA Central Election Commission on the results of the Gyumri Council of Elders elections on March 30, the distribution of mandates is as follows: "Civil Contract" (Sarik Minasyan) - 14 mandates; Communist Party of Armenia (Vardan Ghukasyan) - 8; "Mother Armenia" (Karen Simonyan) - 2; "Our City" (Martun Grigoryan) - 6; "My Powerful Community" (Ruben Mkhitaryan) - 3. Two opposition forces that entered the Gyumri Council of Elders (the "My Powerful Community" party (Ruben Mkhitaryan) and the "Mother Armenia" bloc (Karen Simonyan) expressed their readiness to support his candidacy in the city mayoral elections. Now, all eyes are on Martun Grigoryan, whose position will determine whether an opposition representative will become the head of the municipality or not.
In this regard, Tigran Abrahamyan reminded that Martun Grigoryan has never been a member of the Republican Party, he became a member of the National Assembly by quota from the Rodina party, headed by former director of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan, which together with the RPA formed the I Have the Honor faction. Earlier, the RPA expressed its opinion on the elections in Gyumri, which, however, the party considered inappropriate to make public, so that it would not be perceived as pressure on Martun Grigoryan, and even more so, so as not to make him vulnerable to a third party. "Against the background of the information terror that is being carried out against Martun Grigoryan, he still has time to express his position. At least one thing is clear: both as a person and as a politician, Grigoryan does not deserve the attitude that is observed in the information space," Tigran Abrahamyan said.
He also noted that against the backdrop of information terror against Martun Grigoryan, the Republican Party, which is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary, is also being targeted. "All authors of this negativity towards the RPA should understand that the party has long since developed immunity to this kind of attack. In some cases, the RPA's response is proportional, in some cases - disproportionate. By inflicting political blows on Martun Grigoryan, some political forces in Armenia are trying to start a political campaign against the RPA, which is unacceptable," the MP noted.
