ArmInfo. Vilen Gabrielyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia from the ruling Civil Contract faction, has decided to resign from his mandate as a member of parliament. The parliamentarian wrote about this on his Facebook account.
Dear compatriots, I have a clear conviction that the culture of political responsibility plays a key role in political processes, and this requires the appropriate will and determination, which I have always possessed. I consider the incident with my participation that occurred in the city of Gyumri last Sunday unworthy of a member of the National Assembly. A member of the National Assembly is obliged to avoid inappropriate behavior in the performance of his or her duties. Accordingly, I apologize and officially announce my resignation as a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. I will submit the application to the NA staff in the prescribed manner today," Vilen Gabrielyan wrote.
At the same time, the MP announced his intention to run for the Civil Contract board in the upcoming elections to the party board. "It is obvious to me that our party seriously needs to be restored and transformed. For the sake of tomorrow's truth, allow me to be wrong today. Be vigilant, cool-headed, balanced, strong and responsible," the MP emphasized.
On March 30, a video was circulated online showing Vilen Gabrielyan, under the influence of alcohol, getting into an altercation with journalists in Gyumri, insulting them.
