ArmInfo. The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, using the measure of administrative control, is trying to deprive the "Our City" bloc headed by Martun Grigoryan of the opportunity to effectively participate in the elections to the Council of Elders of Gyumri. Grigoryan's lawyer Arsen Babayan wrote about this on his Facebook account.
"They are trying to limit the political rights of candidates for the Council of Elders and other members of the bloc on election day," Babayan wrote, adding that today, March 28, at 11:20, he will make an important statement in front of the Anti-Corruption Court.
A day earlier, the Anti-Corruption Committee issued a statement in which it announced the detention of eight people on suspicion of giving and receiving bribes during the election process. As part of the investigation, searches were conducted in the offices of two political forces, as well as in the apartments of a number of people. "During the searches, documents of importance to the investigation were seized, including lists of citizens' passport data and handwritten notes. Three of the detainees confessed to the above-mentioned episodes," the department said in a statement.
A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the place was chosen for two of the detainees. A petition for administrative supervision was submitted for the other six defendants in the case. Early elections to the Gyumri Council of Elders are scheduled for March 30.
Earlier, it was reported that searches were conducted in the office of the opposition bloc "I have the honor" in Gyumri and the father and son of mayoral candidate Martun Grigoryan were detained. In addition, checks were conducted in the office of the opposition bloc "Mother Armenia".
Bloc representative Emma Grigoryan was taken to the Anti-Corruption Committee, where proceedings were initiated on a number of episodes related to the possible distribution of election bribes.
