ArmInfo. The name of the first laureate of the Goncourt Award in Armenia will be announced on March 31, 2025, as reported by the French Embassy in Armenia. The diplomatic mission noted that the Goncourt Prize, the most prestigious literary award in France, has been awarded annually since 1903 for the best prose work written in French. "A jury of 10 famous authors takes part in the selection process. The announcement of the winner in Paris on November 4 is considered the most significant literary event of the year in France," the French Embassy noted.
The statement notes that Armenia has become the 39th country to independently submit a nomination for the Goncourt Award, thanks to a joint initiative of the French Institute of Armenia and the French University in Armenia. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Newmag Publishing House and with the support of the University Agency of Francophonie (AUF). As in Paris, the name of the laureate in Yerevan will be announced after the official dinner of the jury and the discussion," the statement continues.
The winning novel will be translated into Armenian and published by Newmag Publishing House as part of the Francofest, scheduled for October 18, 2025. The initiative will be held annually with the goal of establishing an award for contemporary French-language literature in Armenia and publishing the winning works in Armenian translation.
