ArmInfo. On March 27, Seyran Ohanyan the former Minister of Defense of Armenia and head of the Hayastan bloc, spoke to journalists in parliament about the recent shooting in border villages. He noted that the RA Defense Ministry is concealing the truth. According to Ohanyan, the Armenian authorities are constantly facing pressure from Baku. However, the authorities need this document for domestic political purposes. Meanwhile, Baku is trying to prolong the process to gain maximum dividends.
Meanwhile, everyone, including the opposition, aims for peace, Ohanyan said. But today it is obvious that peace with Azerbaijan, which continuously imposes new demands and preconditions for signing a peace agreement, is an illusion.
Regarding the shootings in border areas, particularly in Syunik, and the Armenian Defense Ministry's response that shots are occasionally recorded on the border, but they are not directed towards the territory of Armenia, the former head of the Defense Ministry noted: <regardless their nature, information about such incidents must be received>.
<The recent shootings on the border and the misinformation from Azerbaijan are part of an information war. They are intended to exert psychological pressure on the Armenian people, and serve as a signal to the Armenian authorities - to expedite meeting the demands that have been made outside of the peace agreement to secure its signing>, Ohanyan said.
<Having a deep understanding of the psychology of the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan>, Seyran Ohanyan is convinced that Baku will try to get the maximum from Armenia and not sign a peace agreement at this point.
As the MP pointed out, he recently spoke with residents of the villages of Khnatsakh, and Vaghatur in Syunik, who said that Azerbaijani positions are firing above the village towards Armenia. <This means that information must be provided>, - he said. When asked whether this means that the RA Ministry of Defense is being deceptive, the former head of the Ministry of Defense noted: <I can say that accurate information is not being provided>.
