ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan does not view the opening of the Margara checkpoint on the border with Turkey for the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syria as an "unprecedented" phenomenon.
On March 26, during the government hour in parliament, he mentioned that the checkpoint had actually been opened previously in January 2023. At that time, Armenian trucks with humanitarian aid crossed the Margara Bridge on the Armenian-Turkish border and headed to Turkey, which had been affected by a severe earthquake. "I would not like to overestimate or underestimate this event," the prime minister said. Instead, Pashinyan called for paying <special attention> to the fact that starting from March 1, 2025, all checkpoints in the country are under the control of Armenian border guards (instead of Russian ones - ed.), which <is an extremely important event>.
<In this regard, I would like to thank the Russian side for fulfilling this function from the first days of Armenia's independence>, he concluded.
