During the event organized to mark four years of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) implementation, EU and Government of Armenia representatives noted the strengthening of the Armenia-EU partnership, assessed the progress of reforms and the overall CEPA implementation, and also discussed ways to enhance its effectiveness.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Cabinet, bringing together around 80 participants, the event served as a platform for the exchange of ideas among the partners and strategic discussions on CEPA related reforms. Representatives from the Armenian government presented their draft review of CEPA implementation, outlining key achievements in 2024, current challenges and priority areas for further EU support. The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, reaffirmed CEPA as the foundation of EU-Armenia relations, praising Armenia's commitment to reforms despite challenges. " Armenia and the Eu will soon finalize negotiations for a New Partnership Agenda which will further broaden our cooperation in areas such as security-related reforms and visa liberalization," he said.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan emphasized the significance of discussing and assessing the vital agenda of the Republic of Armenia - the reform process in the light of recent geopolitical developments. He highlighted the importance of correctly understanding, recognizing and implementing these reforms for the sustainable development and progress of the country. He also added that despite various internal and external challenges, the Armenian government is steadily moving forward on the path of reform it has set8, making necessary adjustments as needed and closely collaborating with the European Union.
The event was attended by a special guest Meglena Kuneva, former EU Commissioner, who shared insights from Bulgaria's EU reform journey, underscoring the role of strong public administration in successfully implementing EU-related reforms.The meeting reaffirmed the mutual commitment of the European Union and the Republic of Armenia to work together on the new Partnership Agenda to deepen collaboration and accelerate reforms.
