ArmInfo. Armenia's Demographic Policy Strategy for 2024- 2030 will be ready in April of this year, as stated by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs David Khachatryan at a meeting of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs on March 18.
According to him, the document is currently in the process of being generalized. Proposals and initiatives are being received from various departments that need to be analyzed. A fairly large package was received from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Armenia. The strategy will cover four main areas, one of which focuses on addressing issues related to the adult population. Several programs are planned to be implemented in 2025 to address these issues.
The Deputy Minister reminded that according to the amendments to the Labor Code, employers cannot dismiss individuals who have reached retirement age (63 years). Additionally, a draft legislative initiative is currently being prepared, expected to be approved by the government in April, regarding pension payments. This specifically applies to employed individuals whose pension payments may be postponed for several years. Thus, if pension payments are postponed for 1 year, after the specified period the pensioner will receive not only the full pension, but also a 15% increase, which will continue in the future. If payments are postponed for 2 years, the increase will be 30%, and so on. "Currently, there are approximately 10,000 pensioners in Armenia earning salaries of at least 300,000 drams who will benefit from this program," the Deputy Minister emphasized.
