ArmInfo. On March 17, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to our country Claudia Busch.
Welcoming the Ambassador in parliament, Sargis Khandanyan valued the close cooperation between the National Assembly and the Bundestag.
The Committee Chair spoke about the recent developments in Armenia-European relations, underscored the importance of launching a dialogue on the European Union visa liberalisation for the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
At the meeting Sargis Khandanyan touched upon the signing process of the peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
The sides discussed a number of issues regarding the Armenian-German collaboration.
Then the German diplomat met with the Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports Sisak Gabrielyan.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Sisak Gabrielyan touched upon the cooperation between Armenia and Germany in the fields of education and science, and stressed the need to strengthen cultural ties. The head of the committee stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation, especially in the fields of higher and secondary vocational education. "The two mentioned areas are a priority for our committee, and I would be glad to further strengthen our cooperation in these areas with your support, as we have a lot to learn from our German colleagues in these areas," Sisak Gabrielyan said.
He also presented the process of developing Armenia-EU relations and the role of the Armenian Diaspora in this matter. "Culture and democracy are what connect the Armenian people and Armenia with the European Union. Unfortunately, we do not yet have full-fledged cooperation in the economic sphere," Sisak Gabrielyan said in particular.
The Chairman of the Commission also raised the issue of visas issued to citizens of Armenia, which are short-term, which leads to the formation of queues.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the issue of holding Days of German Culture in Armenia and Days of Armenian Culture in Germany, which is very important from the point of view of activating cultural cooperation.
