ArmInfo. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan rules out the possibility of revising the text of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
he said in a conversation with journalists on March 17.
When asked about the Armenian side's position regarding Aliyev's statement which calls for the creation of a demilitarized zone in addition to the Zangezur corridor, and the elimination of border military infrastructure, the NA speaker responded: "Armenia has clearly stated its position. We are willing to open all roads even tomorrow, and all communications in the region should be open, but this should be done through the framework of bilateral logic. And the delimitarized zone can be considered the zone that, for instance, exists today on the territory of Kirants (Tavush region of Armenia - ed.), where border guards are stationed. Border guards should be stationed along the entire length of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan."
Touching upon Baku's concerns about the presence of European observers in the Republic of Armenia, Simonyan stated that it is Baku that keeps these observers on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "Once he signs the paper, our agreement will come into force," he said. In response to the remark that the withdrawal of EU observers from the border would give Azerbaijan the opportunity to periodically violate the ceasefire, create a background for aggression and blame the Armenian side for this, the NA speaker said: "If there is another attack on the Republic of Armenia after signing of the peace treaty , then this attack will also happen in the presence of EU observers, so what difference does it make? If you sign a document, hypothetically, go and sign it in the presence of EU leaders or presidents of some countries, and then attack Armenia, if you can afford it, then you will shoot and attack EU observers as well."
