ArmInfo. Azerbaijan has never sought peace with Armenia and does not currently seek it, as stated by Artur Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia", in a conversation with journalists on March 17.
According to him, no matter how much Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan tries to mislead the public by claiming that everything ended well and that they reached an agreement with the "constructive" president of Azerbaijan, stating that both parties have no territorial claims against each other and everyone agrees to unblock communications, in reality all of this proves to be a bluff.
He mentioned that after the draft law on Armenia's accession to the European Union was adopted in the first reading, Nikol Pashinyan immediately called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the document. The current situation with the so-called "peace" treaty was no exception, when Pashinyan once again reached out to the Russian leader immediately after announcing progress on the agreement's text. "I believe that he understands the existence of completely different priorities that the guide the West today. US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz first visited Moscow and then went to Baku without visiting Yerevan, indicating that the West now different priorities. Europe is seeking to resolve its security issues amid Washington's new policy aimed at softening Russian-American relations, and Yerevan is well aware of this," Artur Khachatryan said. He believes that international mediators should have been involved in the negotiations for successful implementation, but the President of Azerbaijan "prohibited" such a development of events. "And in Armenia, it is difficult not to carry out Aliyev's order. The logic of the development of events indicates that it would have been correct if there were mediators," the oppositionist concluded.
