ArmInfo. Vanadzor law enforcement officers beat up a relative of a robbery victim, 28-year-old Tigran Ulubabyan, a participant in the Artsakh wars. This was reported by Artsakh lawyer Roman Yeritsyan.
As the lawyer reported, in the city of Vanadzor, two armed masked men illegally entered an apartment rented by an Artsakh family, threatened to kill first a 28-year-old woman, then her young child, and stole jewelry from the house.
Yeritsyan reported that in connection with the incident, the victim, together with her relative, 28-year-old Tigran Ulubabyan, went to the police, where she filed a statement.
"Police officers of the Kirovakan Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs called the victim's relative, 28-year-old Tigran Ulubabyan, to the police station regarding the incident. At the police station, Tigran was taken to the chief's office, where he was urged to take responsibility for the robbery. Having received a sharp and negative response, the chief of the department instructed the police to "process" Tigran. He was dragged to another office, where 6 police officers not only physically abused him, hitting him on different parts of the head and back, but also spat on the man, pulled his hair, and used various insults," the lawyer said.
According to him, after 7 hours of illegal detention at the police station, Tigran was released, urging him not to tell anyone about what happened. Yeritsyan also reported that Tigran is receiving threats against the background of an attempt to publicize the details of the robbery.
"It is curious that the police did not take an explanation from Tigran, did not draw up a protocol on his detention and did not carry out any other legal work," he noted.
The lawyer called on the Department for the Investigation of Crimes Aimed at the Use of Torture and Abuse of Power by Officials of the Investigative Committee of Armenia to pay attention to what happened.
Yeritsyan also drew attention to the fact that Tigran's father and brother were killed in Artsakh, and his mother died. "Although Tigran is the only son in the family, he participated in the four-day, 44-day and recent Artsakh wars," he concluded.
