ArmInfo. The Venice Commission has provided several significant comments regarding the Ministry of Justice of Armenia's initiative to revise the legislation on the expropriation of property.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, these comments were voiced during the 142nd plenary session of the Commission, which was attended by Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan and Deputy Minister Tigran Dadunts.
Additionally, the Venice Commission has positively assessed the initiative of the Ministry of Justice, noting that it represents a significant step towards aligning expropriation procedures with the requirements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). They added that the comments will be considered in the finalization the document before its public discussion. It is noted that the initiative is aimed to ensure higher amounts of compensation for property expropriation by introducing new and more comprehensive standards for studying and assessing expropriated objects. It also includes clarifying procedural steps for challenging decisions and compensation amounts, the establishing clear deadlines for achieving expropriation goals, and implementing mechanisms for holding the state accountable in cases where compensation for expropriation of property is not provided.
