ArmInfo. Today, March 14, the Yerevan City Hall will hold a discussion on the draft submitted by the "Mother Armenia" movement regarding with the increase in public transport prices. The draft was supported by 17,000 Armenian citizens with their signatures. This was announced by the leader of the "Mother Armenia" opposition faction in the Yerevan City Council of Elders, Andranik Tevanyan, on his Facebook page
The oppositionist also mentioned that over the past months, the party has been urging citizens to boycott the new public transport tariffs. According to him, about 60% of Armenia's population supported this initiative. However, Tevanyan claimed that the Armenian authorities used illegal methods by pressing drivers to strictly enforce payment, a task that is not within their competence. He also noted that Yerevan Mayor's press secretary, Hayk Kostanyan, had previously warned of potential fines for those who did not pay for their travel. "We cannot allow this to happen. At the meeting, we will present our project, suggesting that the price of a single ride should not exceed 100 drams. If the ruling party rejects our proposal, we will take further actions," Tevanyan said. He added that the progress made so far confirm the effectiveness of their efforts.
