ArmInfo. The United States commends Armenia and Azerbaijan for completing negotiations on a historic peace treaty. This is noted in a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It is time for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan
"This is an opportunity for both countries to turn the page on a decade-old conflict in line with President Trump's vision for a more peaceful world. Now is the time to commit to peace, sign and ratify the treaty, and usher in a new era of prosperity for the people of the South Caucasus," Rubio said in a message posted on the US State Department website.
Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, has also made a statement. He welcomed the announcements by Armenia and Azerbaijan on the finalization of negotiations on the draft "Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate relations". "When joining the Council of Europe in 2001, both countries pledged to work towards peaceful cooperation. This draft Agreement is evidence of the will in both member states to fulfill this potential and build a stable and lasting peace in the region. It is now crucial to maintain this momentum and ensure the smooth completion of this process, in the spirit of good neighborly relations and with full respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, in line with the Statute of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe fully supports the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and shall continue to provide its support and assistance to both member states, in particular with the aim of ensuring full respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law," Berset said in a statement.
