ArmInfo. The ruling Civil Contract party in Gyumri is now without support and has no chance of coming to power using the Yerevan model. This was stated by Suren Surenyants, former member of the Republic party and political scientist, at a press conference in Yerevan on March 12, while commenting on the pre-election situation for the Council of Elders in Gyumri.
According to Surenyants, the elections in Gyumri are expected to be highly competitive. He explained that while these are municipal elections, they serve as a preview for the 2026 elections. The politician pointed out that in this context, political forces, including the opposition, are seeking to assess their capabilities before the upcoming electoral processes. Additionally, the political scientist expressed his belief that the "Civil Contract" party will not be able to get 50% +1 votes on its own, just like any other political force. He believes that the ruling force's capabilities are currently extremely limited, presenting an opportunity for other parties to form alliances that could prevent Pashinyan's allies from winning in Gyumri. The political scientist highlighted the pressure that the current government has started to exert on the opposition forces. As evidence, he referenced the Armenian Prime Minister's latest speech in Gyumri, where he portrayed the situation in Gyumri as a confrontation between the ruling party and those who support the plunder of the country.
