ArmInfo. If serious developments begin around Iran against the backdrop of Donald Trump's rise to power in the US, it could have catastrophic consequences for Armenia, as stated by former member of the Republic party and political scientist Suren Surenyants, at a press conference in Yerevan on March 12.
As the politician clarified, an interesting development of events is being observed in the context of Iran. According to him, Donald Trump, on one hand, advocates for peace, but on the other hand, he is known for his pro-Israeli views. Israel, in turn, is actively seeking to incite a conflict with Iran, in which the US could also be involved. In this regard, Surenyants noted that under such conditions, Azerbaijan may begin to provide support to its ally, Israel, demanding a certain price for this, which in turn contains certain risks for Armenia. The expert believes that the situation may be defused in a certain way by resolving the conflict around Ukraine. According to him, resolving the Ukrainian conflict will allow Russia to once again switch its attention to the South Caucasus. "In this case, Armenia will not have to choose between Russia and America," he noted.
