ArmInfo. In light of the current turbulent geopolitical situation in the world, the Armenian authorities are left without support. Out of desperation, they are trying to "flirt" with Russia again. Political strategist Karen Kocharyan stated this at a press conference in Yerevan on March 11, touching upon the security challenges facing the country.
Kocharyan expressed uncertainty about whether the current Armenian authorities will be able to restore the "tarnished" relations with Russia. He noted that the current government has already made attempts to establish a dialogue, but most likely received "dry" answers or a refusal. Regarding Azerbaijan's new demands for the extradition of military leaders involved in the Artsakh war, Kocharyan noted that this is a deliberate move by Azerbaijan to avoid signing the agreement with Yerevan. "The Armenian authorities have ignored numerous warnings from opposition forces and experts about Azerbaijan's lack of intention to make peace with Yerevan," the expert emphasized.
Discussing the current domestic political agenda in Armenia in light of the upcoming 2026 elections , Kocharyan noted the ongoing activity within both opposition groups and the ruling party. He emphasized that the main issue is not necessarily a direct conflict between the opposition and the government, but rather internal disagreements among opposition forces. "Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan understands that all these processes are against him, including the tensions within his supporters. Currently, the public sentiment is against the current government. However, the situation can change rapidly, especially in the context of various geopolitical processes. I believe that part of the opposition may be gearing up for street protests this spring, but I do not rule out that the opposition groups that are "eating" each other will unite in the event of serious street unrest," the expert explained, adding that such processes can either begin or end quickly, depending on the actions of the leaders and geopolitical factors.
